Nora’s passion for swimming began with a near-drowning experience as a child. Determined never to feel that fear again, her father enrolled her in swim lessons—sparking a lifelong love for the water. She went on to swim competitively in high school, and since then has dedicated her career to helping others feel safe, confident, and joyful in the water.
As the founder of Nora’s School of Swim, Nora has built a program that reflects her 12+ years of teaching experience and her commitment to making swimming accessible for all. She has taught in nearly every aquatic setting—private and semi-private lessons, swim schools, amusement parks, community pools, and workshops. She has also served as a lifeguard, lifeguard instructor, and program coordinator overseeing more than 300 students, in addition to managing a waterpark.
Certifications held in her lifetime include Red Cross WSI (Water Safety Instructor), Jeff Ellis Swim Coordinator, E&A Lifeguard, E&A ILTP Lifeguard Instructor, and she previously served as a Maryland Volunteer EMT.
Known for her upbeat, patient, and encouraging teaching style, Nora focuses on tailoring lessons to each student’s goals. She emphasizes goal setting, progress tracking, and positive reinforcement—creating a calm and fun atmosphere where swimmers of all ages can thrive. While she welcomes all students, Nora specializes in beginners and is especially passionate about breaking the stigma surrounding adults learning to swim.
Beyond teaching skills, Nora is committed to breaking the stereotype that “Black people can’t swim.” She believes that representation, accessibility, and encouragement are key to changing that narrative. Whether you take lessons with her or not, her dream is that every swimmer feels safe, confident, and empowered in the water. Looking to the future, Nora aspires to open her own swim facility, creating a welcoming space for swimmers of all backgrounds to learn, grow, and thrive.
Students and parents alike often share that Nora’s patience and calm demeanor put them at ease, while her ability to push just the right amount helps them progress quickly and confidently.

"I decided that I needed to learn how to swim as a basic survival skill after 27 long years of being afraid of the water. Dinora was able to help me improve my skills in such a short amount of time. In less than a month, I was able to float, be more comfortable in the water, and have some mobility as well. Don't walk, run to these swim lessons. I am booking more as we speak!"
"Dinora was so patient with me! She used a soft voice the whole time and really went at my pace. I felt very comfortable with her"
"My boys were so scared of the water before, but after working with Nora for just a few lessons, they went from TERRIFIED to SO EXCITED for swim class! She made learning fun and went over things we could do with the boys on our own time as well."
